The Coastal Plains Chapter will be holding Utility and Natural Ability tests on October 1st and 2nd, 2022 at the Oak Hill Shooting Preserve, located at 899 Warrentown Rd, Snow Hill, NC.

We will have (6) Utility Test slots for Saturday, October 1st, and (10) Natural Ability slots for Sunday, October 2nd.  The slot distribution is subject to change based on demand and conditions.

Update: June 27, 2022:

We are currently full for both NA and UT at this time.  We are accepting a limited number of waitlist entries for each test.

All recognized versatile breeds are eligible for NAVHDA tests as long as the dog is registered in the NAVHDA registry. The registration form can be found on the international NAVHDA website.

Dogs are eligible for Natural Ability testing up to and including the day they reach 16 months of age. Dogs over 16 months of age may run Natural Ability for evaluation only and may only run when space is available. No prize can be awarded for dogs over the age limit.

There are no age restrictions on dogs entered in the Utility Preparatory Test or Utility Test. No restrictions are placed on the number of times a dog may be tested.

Starting July 1, 2018 both the owner and handler must be registered members of NAVHDA to enter a dog in a sanctioned test.

Test entries are limited and will be taken on a first come first served basis. (Note: Individuals are limited to 2 entries per testing weekend. Contact chapter leadership for potential special accommodation).

All test entry forms must be completed in full and emailed to the test secretary at  A completed test entry form and payment must be sent to the test secretary.   If your NAVHDA membership number or dog’s registration number is pending, please write this in appropriate boxes on the entry form. Once your numbers become available please update the test secretary with this information.

Test Entry Fees

  • Natural Ability: $145
  • Utility: $170

The preferred method of payment is Venmo. Checks can be made payable to Coastal Plains NAVHDA and will also be accepted.  Please contact the test secretary via e-mail if you would like to mail in a check or test entry form.

An e-mail message will be sent to all handlers upon receipt of the test entry form AND payment within 72 hours. In the event a test is full, we will provide a waiting list with the same requirements of entry form + payment.  If you are placed on a waiting list for the test you will be notified.  If you wish to exit the waiting list, please contact the test secretary immediately.  As the test approaches an email will be sent with the running order and important test information.

Entries may be withdrawn or cancelled up to 30 days before the test date to receive a full refund. Within 30 days of the test, no refunds will be made except for a health issue with a dog, in which case veterinarian records must be provided. In such cases refunds will be made after the specified test date.
